As a remote-first company, it will come as no surprise that the team at Mo uses our own software to build togetherness across our employees.
With team members in scattered across the UK and Europe, we can’t rely on seeing each other in the office to create cohesion and camaraderie. Instead, we use the employee culture platform we built to connect our team, share updates and strive for success.
If you’re curious about how Mo uses Mo to engage our employees, we’re going to reveal all in this article (including screenshots!). Want to connect your own remote team, speak to us about ways you can use Mo.
New Here? Let Us Tell You About Mo
Mo is an all-in-one culture platform that helps teams improve engagement and retain employees. Our features are designed to target recognition, communication and celebration to unlock a better company culture.
Did you know that the rate of “highly engaged” employees sits at only 10% in the UK?
Using Mo is proven to drive up engagement and reduce attrition. Even better, we can also help you hire better candidates by making your workplace more attractive.
How you use Mo is up to you. We work with dozens of different organisations to bring out the best of their cultures, from hospitality and childcare to manufacturing and the energy sector. We have helped remote, distributed, hybrid, in-office and casual teams (basically every sort of company you can imagine) to work better together.
When used as part of an engagement strategy, Mo’s intuitive features work together to motivate your team and develop greater accountability, ultimately pushing you all towards individual and collective success.
Mo’s platform is based around four main features:
We Make Recognition Part of Our Culture
Now that you understand the basics, let’s see how Mo’s team uses our platform to celebrate, motivate and feel fulfilled by our daily tasks.
At Mo, we take our ethos seriously. We are open about our company values, including “having fun along the way”, and aren’t afraid to commit to the engagement strategies we recommend to our clients.
We use a combination of reward, recognition and communication to help our people feel motivated. It’s an approach based on dozens of studies from the likes of Gallup, McKinsey and Harvard Business Review.
As our company has grown, we’ve developed what we call the “Mo Standard” (our take on the Gold Standard) for distributing meaningful rewards across the organisation.
The Mo Standard demonstrates the three key ways to show impactful recognition: High Level; Mid Level; and Base Level.
You need all three to build a culture where employees want to stay. You can read more about this method in our guide to staff appreciation.

Our platform is specifically designed to help leaders share Mid Level and Base Level recognition, while also helping the whole team celebrate recognition at all levels.
Sharing Moments That Matter
Think of Moments as social media for the workplace. Moments appear on a centralised newsfeed, letting our team engage, comment and react in real-time.
Our shared Moments on our Mo feed are packed with positivity and motivating messages. Mo’s team leaders encourage everyone to share Moments that recognise success, celebrate occasions and bring us closer together.
We can share our Moments publicly or privately. As a remote company, sharing Moments breaks down silos and unlocks employee communication that we struggle to achieve on other instant messaging platforms. Apps like Slack can come with a lot of pressure, whereas Mo is a safe space to share the positive parts of our working lives.
We align every Moment we share on our Mo platform with a value, such as “Having fun along the way”.
Adding Mo’s company values improves performance by highlighting our team contributions and celebrating achievements. It also makes it possible for our HR leader, Lily, to track how Moments align with our company values over time.

Creating Engaging Feedback Loops with Boosts
Boosts are customisable prompts that our admins and managers use to drive positive behaviour. They can be scheduled to repeat on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. We mostly use them weekly to drive engagement on Mondays and Fridays. Here are some examples of the Boosts we use:
“Small Wins”
Our HR manager, Lily, designed this Boost to highlight the “invisible work” we do every week. “Small wins” include bringing a stagnating project back to life, publishing a case study and streamlining a laborious workflow.
“Weekend MOments”
This one is pretty self explanatory. As a team, we love sharing our weekend shenanigans with our coworkers. It helps keep us connected as people, not just employees. Unsurprisingly, this is one of our most popular Boosts. Our team agrees that it helps strengthen connection and establish new relationships.
“Who Deserves a Shoutout?”
Our CEO, Luke Fisher, is adamant that regular recognition is the key to great performance. We try to give at least one person a shoutout every week for things like a stellar presentation or closing a deal. Sometimes we add monetary rewards to this Boost for maximum impact on our positive vibes.
Gaining Intuitive Insights Into How Our Team Thrives
Our managers use the Assistant feature to measure progress over time. Team engagement will naturally fluctuate when the company goes through changes.
For example, a recent project temporarily added fast turnaround requests to the workloads of our Product and Engineering teams. Their managers were able to monitor their engagement on Mo through the Assistant’s analytics dashboard.
The Assistant then suggested when to recognise and motivate specific members in the team, helping to keep up engagement during a big push.

Nominating Our Teammates for Striving
Our Nominations feature encompasses peer nominations and company awards. We’ve made the most of their custom details, adding our own Mo flare to our monthly and annual awards.
We use our Nominations to ask employees to put forward names for our Employee of the Month award, as well as our annual MoFo awards, which reward qualities like improvement, connection and outstanding performance.
After we’ve announced our winners, they can be instantly rewarded through our built-in and customised rewards platform.
Sending Rewards for Excellence
One of the ways we show daily appreciation for our coworkers is through peer-to-peer rewards (this is a great example of Base Level recognition). Mo has a built-in rewards platform that allows us to redeem our rewards instantly. Trust us when we say that has a massive impact on our productivity.
Over the years, we’ve developed a reward strategy that suits our way of working.
Managers have larger denominations to give out on a quarterly cadence, whereas team members receive smaller amounts that they can share in denominations of £2, £5 or £10. These renew every month to ensure that peer-to-peer recognition is a regular part of our daily workflow.
Let’s get sciency… Choice is powerful. By giving Mo employees the chance to choose our rewards in the form of gift cards for hundreds of retailers as well as charities, we can tap into inherent motivators.

Trip to the cinema? Sorted. New shoes? Done. Holiday voucher? Easy.
We live in an age of quiet quitting and declining engagement. Our rewards strategy has reversed this trend. Just don’t get Stephen started on his Crocs collection…
Our rewards catalog is customised to suit our company values, including the option to redeem a bottle of “MO-et” (aka. Moet. Get it?). Mo’s leaders and managers can monitor how we share rewards, ensuring that there’s fairness across the organisation.
